Getting started

What is FlipStack?
FlipStack is a fast, minimalist flash-card app for iPhone (iOS 17+). Create decks, add cards with text and images, filter by proficiency (Learning/Proficient/Mastered), and optionally set reminders to review.
Which iOS versions are supported?
FlipStack supports iOS 17 and later.
Is there a Pro version?
Not yet. All current features are available to everyone. Pro features may arrive in the future; you’ll see an in-app notice if/when that happens.

Decks & cards

How do I create a new deck?
On the Home screen, tap +, name your deck, and (optionally) choose a due date and reminder name. Tap Save.
How do I add or edit cards?
Open a deck → tap + to add a card. Enter your Question and Answer (multi-line supported). To edit, tap Edit on a card row or long-press the card.
How do I delete a card or deck?
In a deck, click the edit icon, scroll to the bottom of the modal Delete. To delete a card, click the edit icon, scroll to the bottom of the modal Delete. Deletions are permanent.
What are card proficiency levels?
Each card can be marked Learning, Proficient, or Mastered. Use the filter bar to focus study on a level.
What do deck statuses mean?
Decks can be Active or Completed. Completed decks are kept for reference but excluded from “Active” sections on Home.

Images

How do I attach images to a card?
In the card editor, tap the image icon to pick from your photo library. Thumbnails appear on the card; tap to view full-screen.
Where are images stored?
Images are copied into FlipStack’s local app storage so your cards always display, even if you later remove the original from Photos.
How do I remove an image?
Edit the card, tap the thumbnail’s delete icon (or use the image list in the editor) to remove it from the card and app storage.

Study & filters

How do I flip a card?
Tap Flip on a card row to switch between Question and Answer. (Some decks also support tapping the card itself.)
Can I filter cards while studying?
Yes. Use the sliding filter bar to choose All, Learning, Proficient, or Mastered.
What’s the due date I see on a deck?
It’s an optional target date to nudge you to review. You can add or edit it from the deck editor at any time.

Reminders

How do I enable notifications?
The first time you set a reminder, FlipStack will ask for permission. You can also enable in Settings → Notifications → FlipStack.
I set a reminder but didn’t get an alert.
Check: 1) Settings → Notifications → FlipStack (Allow Notifications, Time-Sensitive if desired), 2) Focus modes aren’t silencing alerts, 3) the device wasn’t in Do Not Disturb or Sleep, and 4) notification time hasn’t passed. If issues persist, try restarting your iPhone.

Appearance

Can I change the background?
Yes. From the Options/Settings area, choose a gradient background style. FlipStack remembers your choice across launches.
Does FlipStack support Dark Mode?
FlipStack follows your system appearance settings.

Data & privacy

Where is my data stored?
All decks, cards, and attached images are stored locally on your device. FlipStack doesn’t use external servers or cloud sync at this time.
Can I back up or move my data?
Your data is included in your regular iOS device backups (iCloud or Finder). Restoring your device from backup will restore FlipStack data.
What permissions does FlipStack request?
Photos (to attach images to cards) and Notifications (to deliver review reminders). You can change these anytime in Settings.
Privacy Policy & Terms
See Privacy and Terms.

Troubleshooting

Cards aren’t saving
Ensure your device has free storage, then force-quit and relaunch FlipStack. If the issue persists, restart your iPhone. Still stuck? Email info@smartstacks.app.
Images won’t attach
Check Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos → FlipStack and set access to All Photos (or select the photos you want). Very large images may take a moment to import.
Notifications don’t fire
Verify Settings → Notifications → FlipStack, disable Focus/Do Not Disturb during the reminder time, and confirm the scheduled time hasn’t already passed. Try a device restart if needed.
App feels slow or UI is glitchy
Restart your iPhone and make sure you’re on the latest iOS. If you have extremely large images attached to many cards, consider trimming image sizes.
How do I contact support?
Email info@smartstacks.app with your device model, iOS version, and steps to reproduce the issue.
